David Loti of the local indie pop group A Soup Named Stew has proven himself a solo jack of all trades, singing his clever, funny, heartfelt pop, playing drums and the keyboards—simultaneously. We caught up with Loti to see what makes the erudite octopus tick.

David Loti is a true artist. He's a singer, a songwriter, and an illustrator who could easily surpass the technique of Marcel Duchamp’s creation – if the medium was Paint Shop.

Loti's faith plays an important part in his songwriting and shows up quite often in his lyrics as well.

One thing I'm not ambivalent on is the quality of David Loti's solo EP.

The sound for this album is strongly acoustical. The production done by John Tulley at Dancing Robot Studio is surprisingly rich. Unlike so many local artist albums, this one doesn’t suffer from poor production that detracts from the listening enjoyment. The music is interestingly arranged. The songs do not have a tendency to sound the same, and the harmonies are done well.

With thoughtful and compelling tracks, he opens up to his listeners and reveals himself on this album. His voice is unique and his lyrics are so specific; they become universal and relatable to anyone. Every song on the album has a point and tells a story through a crisp yet inviting sound that is evident in the track "Good Year."

I have been incredibly lucky not only play music on many occasions with David, but more lucky to be his friend. His music is inspiring and his friendship is invaluable. I hope that you will take the opportunity to enjoy his talent as much as I have.

David Loti's showmanship is entertainment of the highest quality. Give David a microphone, and he becomes the Human Cartoon. Yet, beneath all the entertainment, his lyrics, tone and passion prevail to a depth and spirituality rarely seen.
